AN AUGUSTINIAN MONK'S PORTRAIT, FIRST ATTRIBUTED TO VAN DYCK, NOW RETURNED TO PETER THIJS MATÍAS DÍAZ PADRÓN |
|
Peter Thijs is one of the most prestigious painters in the Rubenian context in Ambers and very closed to Van Dyck. Nevertheless, his work didn't have the critic attention that it really deserves, as it happens with so many excellent painters, outshined by Ruben's absorbing splendour. The Augustinian monk's portrait here analysed and previously attributed to Van Dyck, is a magnificent example of Peter Thijs' great talent, who was admired by the Archduke Leopold William and the Orange House. |
