BARCELONA. THE REASONS OF AN UNIQUE CATHEDRAL

Barcelona cathedral is a great gothic temple in which the architectural project and furniture inheritance have several peculiar items with questioned functional qualities. This essay proposes a new interpretation of the building, based on the peculiar characteristics of the medieval Barcelona society and based on its relation to the royal palace beside. The conclusion is that Barcelona cathedral was conceived as a royal cathedral, though some causes brought about that its construction remained, at the end, unfinished.
